About Dan

Dan Bell

Born and raised on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, I attended Acadia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, later completing my accounting designation as a CMA.   My career in retail management spanned 20 years in various senior roles in Montreal and Halifax followed by five years of self-employment in the accounting field.  Beginning in 2010, I have held financial manager roles in provincial and municipal government. I am currently employed by and reside in the City of Barrie with my fiancée.

Throughout my career I have developed my leadership skills with a style that is inclusive, collaborative, and focused…focused on success. I joined Toastmasters in 1998 to improve my public speaking skills and found so much more.  I quickly took on meeting roles such as Chairperson and Topic Master. I became Club President in my second year which is when I developed my passion for Toastmasters. I began speaking in contests and participated as a semi-finalist at the World Championships. I have served as an Area Governor twice and in all of the District’s top 3 leadership positions, culminating in my service as District Director for the 2006-07 year. As a supportive leader, my team worked diligently and were rewarded with Distinguished District status.

Why do I want to be a District Director a second time?

I am passionate about the Toastmasters program. I want to guide a team of leaders that focus on the District’s mission of building new clubs and helping existing clubs succeed. To accomplish this mission, we will provide resources and mentoring to club leaders to help their members set and achieve their goals.

I have seen how the program helps individuals’ personal growth by building their self-confidence. The success of individual members directly impacts the success of clubs, areas, and divisions. When individual members succeed, we all succeed!

Testimonials

Dan is a dedicated and knowledgeable Toastmaster who will be an outstanding District Director for District 123. I served with Dan on the District 45 Senior Leadership Team and over many years on our club’s executive. Dan demonstrates integrity in all he does. He is a respectful leader and an excellent communicator who can build a cohesive team that will lead the members and clubs of District 123 to success.

Dan is a leader who cares for the people he is leading. When Dan was District Governor for District 45, he was more concerned about each Toastmaster reaching for the stars; he was more concerned about the growth of our clubs; and he was more concerned about ensuring District 45 would be among the best in the world. Dan is a master communicator and he uses that skill to instill confidence and pride in every Toastmaster he meets. This is exactly how I felt when Dan was our District Governor because he truly cares.

Dan stepped in to fill an unexpected vacancy on District 45’s leadership trio in my year as District Governor.  He picked up the role without missing a beat, helping us achieve Distinguished District.  As District Governor two years later, he led us to Select Distinguished, our best finish in years.  He’ll make a great inaugural District Director for District 123.

I was excited that Dan chose our Club with his move to Ontario. His experience and longevity in the Toastmasters program have been a real inspiration to our members. He has shared his expertise as a public speaker by including us on his competition journey last year. This year he honoured us by accepting the challenging role of VP Education at our club and being a real team player. He is organized, passionate, supportive and gives excellent feedback. His leadership at the club level has been inclusive, inspiring, and imaginative! I am happy to recommend Dan for the new District 123 Director position for the upcoming year as I think we will all learn and grow under his leadership.
